American Blogger: The First Journey

Wednesday, April 23, 2014

American Blogger is now available for purchase at www.americanblogger.com! You will get the full length documentary along with four other short films that Chris has made.

I watched the film last night, and it is beautifully made. I am inspired by so many of the women's stories, full of heartache and loss, laughter and joy. It is so neat to see how these women have used blogging to express themselves and find community throughout difficult times such as miscarriage and cancer, as well as just to have a creative outlet for the things in life about which they are passionate!

Unfortunately the release of the trailer also came with the release of some criticism, so Chris has included a "disclaimer" which you can read below. Ultimately, Chris is a dedicated, passionate, creative and talented filmmaker, and I hope the world will see that his heart was always in the right place. I believe many people merely misunderstood his goals and his plan for this film.

I hope you will read his words below, and I hope you will enjoy the film!

I am extremely disappointed by the “controversy” over American Blogger. I would say I am shocked, but as I get older this world ceases to shock me.

One person on the Internet said that Chris Wiegand’s documentary is “ridiculous.” Well, I think the fact that people are saying such terrible (and incorrect) things about this film is ridiculous.

Chris is a filmmaker. He is not a “first-time filmmaker” as another person on the Internet said. He has been making beautiful films for years. This is his first full-length documentary, but Chris has created more beautiful, meaningful films – both narrative and documentary – than 99.99% of people will ever create – regardless of their length.

As an actress living in Los Angeles, I have seen my share of “haters.” This industry is full of them. But that’s all they are. Haters. They aren’t doers. They aren’t contributing in a positive manner to society. They aren’t creating things that will leave this world a better place long after they are gone.

They aren’t. But Chris is.

Chris and Casey Wiegand are two of the most creative and inspiring individuals I know. They have the most beautiful family and the most beautiful, passionate hearts.

Casey's blog, thewiegands.com, has millions of viewers. And Chris is an incredibly talented filmmaker with whom I have been fortunate enough to work on multiple projects, most recently a film called Harper Abbott.

Chris' latest project is a full length documentary called American Blogger, in which he tours the nation interviewing bloggers who have millions of followers all the way down to little 'ole bloggers who are just starting out like me!
I am so honored to be a small part of what I know is going to be a huge project. I cannot wait for the premiere of the film this summer in Dallas.

You can watch the trailer here! And it will be available for download on iTunes in June!
