I was watching the SAG awards this Saturday, and
Bryan Cranston said something that really stood out to me. He won the award for
best male actor in a drama series for his role on a little show you might have
heard of called Breaking Bad. I’ve heard people are into it…
When making his acceptance speech, Cranston thanked,
on behalf of the cast of their show, “our creator.” When I hear the words “our
creator,” I immediately think of God. Cranston then went on to joke that their
creator (of Breaking Bad), Vince Gilligan, was “not the God” but was certainly “a
God.” Cranston thanked Gilligan for giving him and his fellow cast such a
wonderful story to tell.
Hm.
Isn’t that sort of how it is with us the God?
God is our creator, our father, almighty, all knowing,
just and good. And He has given us such a wonderful story to tell.
The story is our lives.
And the best part of that story? That we have the
gift of eternal life given to us by the grace of God. There is absolutely
nothing we can do to earn this gift. He offers is to everyone. Should we choose
to accept the gift, the gift of God’s only son, Jesus Christ, He promises that
we will be saved, that we will spend eternity in heaven with him, that we will
have everlasting life.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16
My life is a story. Written by God.
I may not be up on stage accepting a SAG Award - yet! - but I am able to enjoy sunsets like this one... and that is a pretty amazing gift. |
The time we have here on earth is so short compared
to eternity. I want to make the most of it… But with that often comes me trying
to do everything myself, be productive, gain success, etc. Too often I forget
that I have the creator of the universe on my side to help me. Too often I
forget that my creator has plans for me, and I try to make my own plans.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
I am pretty sure when I try to make my own plans, God
laughs. I might try to steer the direction of the plot a certain way, but
without fail, the Lord steers me back on His path – thankfully – and never
ceases to surprise me with his faithfulness, his guidance, his love.
Too often I get caught up in the day to day and
forget to thank God for this crazy, unpredictable, hard, and amazing gift of
life.
Isn’t it about time we thank God for giving us such a
wonderful story to tell?
